Duccio, Simone Martini, Pietro & Ambrogio Lorenzetti and Beccafumi.
In this tour we will focus particularly on the artistic development of Siena. These five artists represent the most outstanding moments in Sienese art, from the golden radiant wall paintings and the fine frescoes of the Gothic to the rational excesses of the mannerism. The route will take in one masterpiece from each of these five artists so that you can learn more about their lives, the times they were living in and of course, their work.
So Duccio will be our guide in the Duomo (Cathedral) of Siena, we’ll visit Simone Martini in the town hall, Pietro and Ambrogio Lorenzetti will meet us in the Museum of the Duomo and Beccafumi will bring us at last to the oratory of St. Bernard of Siena.
At each of the places mentioned above we’ll also meet the other artists again, giving us a perfect overview of the development of art in Siena over four centuries.
